Sand Springs Public Schools and CAP
to Host Groundbreaking for New Sand Springs Early Education Center on April 11
Sand Springs Public Schools and Community Action Project of Tulsa County (CAP) will host a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Sand Springs Early Education Center, to be located at Sand Springs Lake Park, at 11 a.m. on Friday April 11, 2008.
Speakers for the event will include: Rep. Chris Benge, Speaker ofthe Oklahoma House of Representatives; Susan Illgen from the Oklahoma State Department of Education; Sand Springs Mayor Bob Walker; Debbie Thompson and Jadine Nollan from the Sand Springs Board of Education; Superintendent of Sand Springs Public Schools Lloyd Snow; Annie van Hanken of the George Kaiser Family Foundation, and Steven Dow of Community Action Project.
The Sand Springs Early Education Center will offer 20 classrooms for children ages birth through four and will provide early education and family support services to approximately 350 Sand Springs children and their families. The Center will open in fall 2009. "High quality early education programs help students succeed in school and in life. We are delighted to offer this new center to advance the learning of young children in our community," said Lloyd Snow, Superintendent of Sand Springs Public Schools.
The Center will be jointly operated by Community Action Project and Sand Springs Public Schools in partnership with Family & Children's Services and is supported by funding from the state of Oklahoma and private donors as part of the State of Oklahoma's Pilot Early Childhood Program, which seeks to enhance and expand high quality early childhood education throughout Oklahoma for children birth through three years of age.
