Board Meeting Standouts

2017-2018

January

During the January 8th District Board Meeting, there were several recognitions of Sandite leadership and success.  

Allie Ornelas was was nominated for the Sandite Spirit Award and recognized by the School Board for her student leadership efforts.  Allie's efforts have resulted in Teacher Appreciation Programs at CPHS, a Clothes Closet at CNGC, and most recently,  the Little Neighborhood Library Program.

Abigail Banks was selected for State Superintendent Joy Hofmeister's Student Advisory Council.  Abigail will represent Sand Springs as the Student Advisory Council meets with Supt. Hofmeister during the Spring Semester.       

The OSSBA recognized Sand Springs School Board Members for their dedication to students and education in Oklahoma.

 

 

 

NOVEMBER

On Monday, November 6th, the Sand Springs School Board recognized the efforts of several community members and district faculty.  

District Awards

Charles Page High School student, Carson Griggs   was awarded the Sandite Spirit Award for representing Charles Page High School in State and National Golf Tournaments, and for his involvement with Special Olympics.

Northwoods Fine Arts Academy 5th Grader, Joselynn Parrott was recognized with a Sandite Spirit Award for her volunteer efforts and encouragement to other students in her school.  Angus Valley Elementary Librarian, Laura McGehee was awarded the Sandite Pacesetter Award for going above and beyond her regular duties to assist in Kindergarten classrooms until a teacher could be hired by the district. 

 

Community Awards

Dana Weber, CEO and President of Webco Industries, was awarded the Sandite Pacesetter Award for her efforts in rallying community members and businesses for the goal of raising funds for STEM programs.  As part of that fundraising campaign, Webco Industries donated $20,000 for the 2017-18 School Year. Erik Stuckey represented the Sand Springs Home in accepting the Sandite Pacesetter Award.  The Sand Springs Home donated $10,000 to the district in support of STEM Programs.

 

SEPTEMBER

SSPS Enrollment Center

Staff members from the Sand Springs Enrollment Center were recognized with the SSPS Pacesetter Award for September, 2017.  Through the hard work of these staff members, the 2017-18 enrollment process ran smoothly for another Sandite Summer.  Thank you to Karen Taylor, Bonnie Larkin, Denise Bridgforth, Kim Lawrence, and Dani Larkin for your hard work in making enrollment a smooth transition this year!

AUGUST

Janet Johnson - CBMS Science Teacher

Mrs. Janet Johnson was honored with special recognition for making it to the State Teacher of the Year Finals. Janet is one of 12 who are now in the running for representing the State of Oklahoma as the State's Teacher of the Year! You were honored, Janet, but it is the district and city of Sand Springs who are truly honored! Many thanks for your passion for teaching that you display each day in the classroom. Congratulations!
Shawn Beard - Technology Director

Shawn was presented with the Sand Springs Schools "Coin of Excellence" for the amazing work he has accomplished in gaining grant money for the district. Just one small example is the recent award of a $25,000 Gateway to Technology grant for the Career Tech program. Way to go, Shawn!
Teacher-led Student Trips

Teachers, Cindy Dunn, Andrea Campfield, Sandy Charlson, Kendra Roulet and Heather Miller (not pictured) were presented with Sandite Pacesetter awards. Each year, these teachers go above and beyond in coordinating and directing teacher-led student trips to educational locations.Through their efforts, students are given the opportunities to experience and learn in ways a classroom could never do. Way to be a Sandite, ladies!


JULY

Sand Springs Women's Chamber

The Sand Springs Women's Chamber received special recognition for their generous $4,000 gift to purchase Chromebooks for the elementaries with a focus on Reading Sufficiency. We are overwhelmed with your giving spirit and yearning to help Sand Springs Students have all they can to excel!
Laura Hamilton - Northwoods Principal

Laura Hamilton received the Sandite Pacesetter Award for going above and beyond by stepping forward when an unexpected situation arose. She not only did so without missing a beat but the students and staff never knew anything had changed. Assistant Superintendent, Kristin Arnold, states, "She always works hard to meet the academic, social and emotional needs of her sudents and to give her parents and staff the tools they need for success. Mrs. Hamilton has demonstrated once again what a great leader does."
