CPHS Senior Class Update

Dear Class of 2020 and Senior Parents,

Many of you have contacted us to ask questions and express your concerns about completing the school year and special events for seniors. We share your concerns and are working to make sure that we celebrate the Class of ‘20 as fully as they deserve. We have ceased all school operations by order of the State Board of Education until April 6. We will begin school using a distance learning model on April 6.  Below are answers to some of the questions that you have shared thus far. Other questions will surely arise. Please continue to consult our district website at www.sandites.org and to follow us on social media. We will continue to update those sites as new information becomes available. In the meantime continue to bring us your questions and stay in touch during this difficult time. We will get through this together because we are SANDITE STRONG!

GRADES, CREDITS, AND DIPLOMAS

All seniors who were on track to graduate as of March 12 when we left for Spring Break will graduate on time upon completion of any further course requirements that teachers may have when we begin distance learning on April 6. Any additional work required for the completion of core classes, like Senior English, will be available online with a “a paper/pencil” option available for students who do not have internet access. We will distribute diplomas and final official transcripts to our seniors in early June. If our building is still closed at that time, we will make diplomas and transcripts available through curbside pickup or mail.

Seniors who are short on credits or who were struggling academically at the time of the school closure will be given every opportunity to make up the requirements necessary for graduation using every resource at our disposal. Our counselors or Director of Virtual Education Jay Rotert will be in contact with students who have extra work to do before graduation. The CPHS teachers come back to work on April 6, and they will modify coursework for students who need to complete graduation requirements. We are fully committed to seeing that 100% of the CPHS Class of 2020 graduates on time and will do everything in our power to reach that goal. Should you have any questions about graduation requirements, please contact your counselor by email:

GRADUATION

Graduation ceremonies for the Charles Page High School Class of 2020 are scheduled for Saturday May 9 at the Mabee Center on the campus of Oral Roberts University at 7:30 pm. Of course, there is a possibility that public gatherings will still be prohibited on that date. If that is the case, we will make an effort to hold a graduation ceremony on our campus after restrictions on public gatherings are lifted.

PROM

The CPHS Prom is currently scheduled for Saturday, May 16 at 8:00 pm at the Tulsa Jazz Hall of Fame in downtown Tulsa. This is the latest date that we could reserve and still be within the students’ school year. Should we have to cancel this date due to continued health concerns, we will notify the students and parents as soon as possible.

LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS

Seniors have already had the opportunity to apply for scholarships from our local community. Those applications are in the hands of our generous donors. As with our other end-of-year events, we are awaiting word from health officials as to when or if we will hold our annual scholarship awards ceremony. Whether we are able to hold the ceremony or not, our community continues to support our seniors and they will receive those scholarship dollars as always.

SANDITE KING & QUEEN

Sandite King & Queen is the highest honor that we award at CPHS. These students are chosen for their academic excellence, extracurricular involvement, leadership and faculty recommendations. Fortunately, we fully automated the King & Queen selection process a few years ago. Nominated seniors have already completed the application and we are awaiting those students’ faculty recommendations. After we have received all of the necessary information, we will determine the students to be honored as Sandite King & Queen 2020.

YEARBOOKS

Students who purchased a yearbook will receive one. The CPHS yearbook staff has almost completed the book for 2020 and readied it to be sent to the printer. Some content, like spring sports, will of course be missing from this year’s book. We are currently waiting for our printer to let us know that they are back in operation so that we can send the CPHS 2020 Yearbook to press.

SENIOR SLIDESHOW

The Senior Slideshow is a proud tradition at CPHS. Mrs. Janet Thompson works very hard to produce it every year with the help of her students. Those students, of course, are no longer in school so producing the slideshow will be more difficult this year. Additionally, we do not have daily face-to-face contact with seniors to remind them to get their pictures turned in. That being said, we will work to produce the senior slideshow. Please stay tuned for further information and a site where students and parents can upload photos for inclusion in the slideshow.

PERSONAL ITEMS AT SCHOOL AND BUILDING ACCESS

Our school is closed. We are currently unable to allow students inside the building to get calculators, backpacks, coats, textbooks or other personal effects from their lockers and classrooms. We will work with local health officials and you to coordinate a means by which we can return personal items to students who anticipated returning to school as usual on March 23.

PHONE CALLS AND MESSAGES

Most of us will be working from home most of the time for the remainder of the year. The main CPHS phone number, (918) 246-1470, is routed to Mr. Trout’s cell phone. Please leave a message if you don’t connect with us immediately and one of us will call you right back.

I am sure that I have left out answers to many of your questions. Please contact me using the information below and I will try my best to get you the information that you need. In the meantime, be safe and I hope to see you all very soon!
