Staff Spotlight

Tell us about yourself.

I'm a mom of 3. Ava is 13, Emerson is 12, and Cora is 9. My husband, Matt, is a Tulsa Firefighter. This is my 7th year at Charles Page High School.

What hobbies do you enjoy?

When I'm not knitting or solving a crossword puzzle, I love to go for treasure hunts at thrift stores and Goodwill! I also recently discovered that I enjoy gardening. I'm also a fan of lifting weights, but not running. I always tell people that if they see me running, they should run too because I'm probably being chased by a wild animal.

Where did you attend high school?

Memorial High School

What extra-curricular activities were you involved in when you were in high school?

I was a Varsity cheerleader. I also had lead roles in two of my school's musicals: Guys and Dolls and South Pacific.

What is the best thing about working in the Sand Springs school district?

I feel such a loyalty to this school because my entire family are Charles Page High School graduates. I'm the only one who went a different path, but now I've been here longer than all of them! I am honored to be a Sandite!

What advice do you have for high school students?

In the words of my dad, Bill Newport: "It's always too soon to panic." I think this applies to so many things- not being sure what you want to be when you grow up, actually growing up, making life decisions, misplacing your cell phone, etc. Step back. Take a deep breath. It will be ok!

Where is the best place you've traveled to and why?

Ghana, Africa. Despite the extreme poverty experienced by all, the joy that radiates from Ghanaian people is unparalleled by any humans I've ever met. I'm forever changed having been to that place.
