Ms. Veirs's 5th grade class has been working on a project using the book, "What Do You Do with an Idea?" by Kobi Yamada.  Students worked in pairs to research different famous inventors like Alexander Graham Bell, Thomas Edison, Tim Berners-Lee, and more. The students found that almost all of the inventors had faced some ridicule for their ideas. Students then listened to the book, "What Do You Do with an Idea" where they learned that when an idea comes, most people are a little afraid of it. They worry what people will think. As the book wraps up, the main character realizes what you do with an idea... you change the world! The students then created their own character from the book - the idea. They sewed a stuffed version of the character. Inside each "idea" students put beads with their initials, a bead they chose that has a motivational word on it, and two other beads  that represent the student. These beads were put into the body of the character to become the character's heart.  Each student will be able to take their ideas home and hopefully they will remember when they see it that their ideas -as they come and go- need attention and love, and that their ideas could change the world!
