National Junior Honor Society Induction Ceremony

National Junior Honor Society

The National Junior Honor Society recognizes excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Character, and Citizenship. To be eligible for membership in NJHS, a student must have a cumulative 3.71 grade point average, must be enrolled in 5 core classes (4 for 6th graders), and must not have been suspended. Students who are eligible are invited to join in September (based on cumulative GPA through the past spring semester) and in January (based on cumulative GPA through the past fall semester.) Potential members must fill out a Student Activity Form showing proof of participation in activities in and out of school, leadership activities, service and other community activities, and recognition and awards received. Forms are scored by a faculty committee, and students who are accepted for membership are notified. Once a student is a member of NJHS, his or her membership continues through 9th grade.

NJHS Induction Ceremony

New members of NJHS are inducted in April in a ceremony that may be attended by parents and relatives. Members who are accepted for membership in the fall must show proof of 4 hours of community service by May 1 in order to be considered a member in good standing. Members who are accepted in the spring must show proof of 2 hours of community service by May 1. Students who were accepted in previous years must show proof of 6 hours of community service by May 1. Students who fulfill their community service responsibility will receive certificates at the end of the year.
