Our Aviation class has been busy designing and building hot air balloons out of tissue paper — and it’s more than just a colorful craft project. By creating their own balloons, students are learning the principles of flight in a hands-on way.
They explored:
Lift & Buoyancy – how warm air rises and makes a balloon float.
Heat Transfer – the role of convection and thermodynamics in flight.
Aerodynamics & Design – why shape and construction affect stability.
Engineering Skills – problem-solving, testing, and refining their designs.
Watching their balloons rise is exciting, but the real lift-off is in their understanding of aviation science. Great job, Sandites — the sky’s the limit!
