Ms. Wilson’s Honors U.S. Government classes kicked off their Elections & Voting unit last week with a full-scale (and fully student-made) political party simulation—and it was fantastic.
Students broke into groups and created their own political parties from scratch:
Unique party names
Original mascots
At least three core beliefs
A presidential candidate selected from their group
From there, the campaigning took off! The halls were buzzing with posters, signs, campaign videos, handshake-photo-ops, and students delivering their best “vote for me!” energy. Each presidential nominee wrapped things up with a campaign speech, giving their final push before “election day.”
To bring the electoral college to life, every student also drew a state and became the keeper of that state’s electoral votes during the final tally.
The parties were creative, funny, and surprisingly insightful—just like our students. And in the end, they walked away knowing not only how elections function, but also why electoral votes matter and why listening to candidates actually matters more than popularity alone.
Democracy is alive and well at CPFA… and honestly, the mascots alone deserve their own ballot.
