CPHS/FA Program Showcase

On March 8-9, CPHS/FA hosted a "Program Showcase" for Clyde Boyd Middle School 8th grade students.  The purpose of the event was to inform current 8th graders of course offerings related to their career interests.  With course selection quickly approaching, the showcase event was a great opportunity for the incoming freshman to be introduced to the unique courses offered at CPHS/FA.

Small groups of 8th grade students toured career specific programs throughout each day. Students had the opportunity to participate in hands on activities, observe student projects, and ask questions about each program.  Students toured Manufacturing, Agriscience, BioMedical Science, Computer Technology, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Business Marketing and Information Technology, Yearbook, Student Council, Drama, Engineering, Architecture, Family and Consumer Sciences, Aeronautics, and Construction. Students were also able to hear from our on-site Tulsa Tech coordinator, Keri Hobson, about the unique opportunity Sandite freshman have to select Tulsa Tech courses. Tulsa Tech is generally reserved for Juniors, Seniors, and adults.

"Ag was my favorite since I'm already involved in showing but I was also interested in FACS. I'm interested in learning about healthy relationships and family-related things" - Paige Conrad, 8th grade

"My favorite courses were Architecture and Engineering. I really like the idea of hands-on experience because that's how I learn best.  Yearbook was another course I was interested in. I'm kind of anti-social so I think it would be a good opportunity to be more social." - Korbin Schomer, 8th grade

"My favorite course was BioMed because I think it will help me the most with my medical career in the future. Construction was interesting too because you get to build cool things." - Kylee Bailey, 8th grade

"The Program Showcase is a valuable cog in the wheel of education at Sand Springs, it allows students to get a glimpse into their chosen high school academic pathway before they begin their journey to success." - Randy Evans; National DuPont Agriscience Ambassador; Agriscience Instructor Sand Springs

"It was awesome to get to demonstrate to the incoming freshman what they can accomplish if they take my class next year." - Becky Nokes; Project Lead The Way - Computer Sciences

"Inviting our upcoming Freshmen to tour our programs was such a special event; my current students really enjoyed the opportunity to display their work, skills, and talents to the class of 2025!" - Jessica Sprague; Project Lead The Way - Engineering
