When to Keep your Child Home and How to Prevent the Flu
The peak of cold and flu season is here, Sandites! To prevent widespread flu/infection in the district, our school nurses ask you to follow the guidelines below.
When to CONSIDER Keeping your Child Home
Keeping a sick child at home will help minimize the spread of infections and viruses in the classroom. Consider keeping your child at home for an extra day of rest and observation if he or she has any of these symptoms:
Very stuffy or runny nose and/or a cough
Mild sore throat (no fever, no known exposure to strep)
Headache
When to DEFINITELY Keep your Child Home
Keep your child at home for treatment and observation if he or she has any of these symptoms:
Fever
The student may return to school only after temperature has been consistently below 100.4 degrees for a minimum of 24 hours.
A student must stay home if they have a temperature greater than 100.4 degrees.
Vomiting (even once)
Diarrhea
Chills
General malaise or feelings of fatigue, discomfort, weakness or muscle aches
Frequent congested (wet) or croupy cough
Lots of nasal congestion with frequent blowing of the nose
Confirmed or suspected Flu diagnosis
Must be fever free for 24 hours AND symptom free to return to school
How to Prevent
To help prevent the flu and other illnesses, our nurses recommend teaching your children good hygiene habits:
Stay up to date on vaccinations.
Wash hands frequently.
Do not touch eyes, nose or mouth.
Cover mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing, use a paper tissue, throw it away and then wash hands.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
If you have any questions regarding the cold and flu season, please contact your school nurse.

Our future starts with Sandites. 🚀
The Future-Ready Sandites plan is a $114.5 million bond proposal that includes numerous projects. For Charles Page High School and Freshman Academy, it would mean roof replacement/repair, an updated auditorium exterior, accessibility upgrades, upgraded security, access, and fire panels, technology, and curriculum.
This bond would NOT raise property taxes.

Dear Sandite Families,
Earlier this week, I wrote to you about the staffing challenges faced by our district due to the current COVID-19 surge. Despite our best efforts to keep classes open at all sites, we must now implement a short-term switch to distance learning. Sand Springs Public Schools will shift to distance learning for the rest of the week, January 13-14. We will return to in-person learning on Tuesday, January 18. Please bear in mind that Monday, January 17 is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and there will be no class that day.
Child Nutrition will provide free curbside meal pickup every day for SSPS students. Please visit bit.ly/sanditecurbside to place your curbside orders.
If you have questions about distance learning/Google Classroom, please contact your child’s teacher. For all other questions, please contact your school.
Whether in-person or virtually, our tireless educators strive to provide the best possible learning experience for our students. I am honored to work alongside such dedicated heroes.
As always, thank you for your continued support and understanding during these difficult times.
Sherry Durkee,
Superintendent

Charles Page Freshman Academy Yearbook took home another win by being showcased in the Jostens’ Look Book 2021. This is a significant achievement to be featured in the annual “Best if the best” publication. A team of experts selected 460 yearbooks from over 1200 submitted for consideration. This goes to show that the 9th grade yearbook is a perfect example of excellence, creativity, inclusion, and innovation. This is the second year in a row receiving this honor. Congratulations, Mrs. Pride and Yearbook Staff.
