Elementary Student Rylan Hamby receives recognition from school board, principal, and teacher

At the December Sand Springs Board of Education meeting, the board recognized three employees and one student for exemplifying Sandite Excellence.

Jozelyn Brace, Laura Dennis, and Kylee Mays - Early Childhood Education Center

Jozelyn Brace, Laura Dennis, and Kylee Mays received the Sandite Pacesetter award. The three support personnel from the Early Childhood Education Center were nominated by their colleague Jonelle Jones.  In the nomination form, Ms. Jones writes that these three Sandites possess unique talents and characteristics making them worthy of recognition.

Ms. Brace arrives at school each day by 7 a.m. and typically stays until 5 p.m. She assists with morning care, takes the lead on special projects, and goes above and beyond every day. Ms. Brace also works an aftercare program before going home to finish her own homework as a full-time college student.

Ms. Mays is a single mom of two who occasionally picks up shifts at a second job. Twice a week, she works at the ECEC until 5 p.m., working for the aftercare program. In her nomination form, Ms. Jones states that Ms. Mays’ “ability to remain cool in tough times is unmatched,” and that she shows great initiative on special projects.

Ms. Jones praised Ms. Dennis for her hard work and awareness. She recently switched to Special Education and works closely with Ms. Mays. During the board meeting, Ms. Jones stated that she is grateful to know all three Sandites, and that “they make coming to work that much better.”

Rylan Hamby - Pratt Elementary

Pratt Elementary student Rylan Hamby received the Sandite Spirit Award for his helpfulness and leadership. Rylan was nominated by Pratt Elementary principal Jay Rotert and teacher Abigail Perkins. Mr. Rotert and Ms. Perkins asked Rylan for help with a fellow bus rider, reminding the student of safe bus practices. Rylan has befriended the student and makes sure to connect with him every morning when he arrives at school. He does a great job being a role model, classmate, and friend.

Congratulations to these outstanding individuals! Thank you for your commitment to our schools, students, and fellow Sandites.
