Left to Right: Tracy Hanlon, Chuck Barrineau, Steve Perdue

At the February Sand Springs Board of Education meeting, the board recognized Sandite community partners with the Sandite Spirit Award and Coin of Excellence.

Chuck Barrineau – Harvest Church

The board recognized Harvest Church with the Sandite Spirit Award. Lead Pastor Chuck Barrineau received the award on behalf of the church. Page Academy principal Steve Perdue nominated Harvest Church for their steadfast support of Sand Springs Public Schools, and particularly of Page Academy.

Harvest Church has provided lunch for Page Academy faculty on the first Friday of every month, and they regularly offer their space for school events. During the holiday season, Harvest Church gives hoodies to our alternative education students and teachers, and they always help when asked for any specific needs.

Jeanie Kvach – Architect
Dick Watts – The Watts Company

The board presented Jeanie Kvach and Dick Watts with the Sandite Coin of Excellence. While the honor is typically reserved for employees, Kvach and Watts have earned this distinction through their long and meaningful partnership with Sand Springs Public Schools.

Kvach has served under contract as the district’s resident architect for well over 25 years. Watts has completed numerous jobs for the district over the years, from small renovations to installing the jumbotron at Memorial Stadium.

In her nomination form, Superintendent Sherry Durkee states that Kvach and Watts completed the remodel of the old Central Ninth Grade Center. The pair revitalized the historic building, which now houses Central Administrative Services. “While they may be two of the most humble people I know,” says Supt. Durkee, “their commitment and loyalty is immeasurable, and they both deserve immense recognition. We, as a district, are better because of them.”

Congratulations to these outstanding Sandites! Thank you for your vision and dedication to SSPS. #BeTheLight
