At the August Sand Springs Board of Education meeting, the board gave special recognition to Dominic Ornelas, Jabe Schlehuber, and JJ Smith.
Sandite Spirit Award
Dominic Ornelas and Jabe Schlehuber
Dominic Ornelas and Jabe Schlehuber, Charles Page High School baseball players, received the Sandite Spirit Award for their athletic accomplishments. In May, the Oklahoma Baseball Coaches Association named these two Sandites to the Large School East All State team. Coach Matt Brown says the pair “have represented our school and town extremely well over the course of the last four years.”
Later this month, Jabe and Dominic will begin classes at Northern Oklahoma College in Enid, where they will continue to play baseball.
Sandite Pacesetter Award
JJ Smith
Charles Page Freshman Academy Principal JJ Smith received the Sandite Pacesetter Award. Mr. Smith was nominated by district employee Dawne Edelman, whose daughter just completed ninth grade. In her nomination form, Ms. Edelman states that Mr. Smith is a constant presence at CPFA events, whether daytime or evening. She also praises Mr. Smith for his helpfulness and availability to freshman parents, creating a smooth transition from middle school to high school.
