At the October Sand Springs Board of Education meeting, the board recognized students and staff with the Sandite Spirit Award, Pacesetter Award, and Coin of Excellence.
Delores Larkin - Charles Page High School
Delores “Dee” Larkin received the Sandite Pacesetter Award. Ms. Larkin was nominated by Dawne Edelman, who says that she was instrumental in making the Varsity Dance Clinic a Success.
In her nomination form, Ms. Edeleman states that Ms. Larkin assisted with stadium lights and took precautions in the event of inclement weather. With a storm approaching during the dance clinic, Ms. Larkin ensured the field house was unlocked, in case dancers needed to take shelter.
“She is someone who you can count on,” says Ms. Edelman, “and she goes above and beyond… Dee Larkin is an amazing person and certainly an asset to our district.”
Richard Brewer - Transportation
Bus driver Richard Brewer received the Sandite Coin of Excellence.
In September, a student on Mr. Brewer’s bus route began choking. Mr. Brewer sprang into action and successfully performed the Heimlich maneuver, saving the student’s life. The board recognized Mr. Brewer for his situational awareness, quick thinking, and heroic actions.
Transportation director Erich Anderson nominated him for the Coin of Excellence. In his nomination form, Mr. Anderson says, “Richard is one of our most reliable bus drivers. He is always dependable, and the students know they can count on him to ensure their safety at all times.”
AP Scholars - Charles Page High School
Several students from Charles Page High School received the Sandite Spirit Award for earning AP Scholar Awards from the College Board. This year’s AP scholars represent 65 passed AP exams and at least 195 hours of college credit earned.

Gracey Massey - Charles Page High School
With her second Sandite Spirit Award of the evening, Gracey Massey was recognized for earning a National Indigenous Award from the College Board National Recognition program. Gracey is one of three students who recently received recognition from this program.
