Sand Springs Public Schools has been named a 2026 Oklahoma Public School Resource Center (OPSRC) Breakthrough School Award winner in the Overcomer category.
OPSRC announced the inaugural Breakthrough School Awards during the Oklahoma School Innovation Summit on June 4 at Embassy Suites in Norman. The awards recognize Oklahoma public schools and districts demonstrating measurable academic growth, strong instructional leadership and meaningful student progress.
The Overcomer Award is awarded for making significant gains in student outcomes, including reading and math achievement.
"We are honored to be recognized with the OPSRC Breakthrough School Award," said Shawn Beard, SSPS Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning. "This award reflects the hard work of our students, teachers, and staff, as well as the strong support of our families and community. This recognition illustrates what can happen when a school district works together with a shared focus on student achievement."
OPSRC used its statewide data matrix dashboard to analyze multiple indicators of student success and identify schools and districts excelling in areas like academic growth, consistency over time, graduation outcomes and student progress. A total of 24 Oklahoma public schools and districts were recognized across three grade categories — elementary, K–8 and K–12 districts — with honors in four award categories: Overcomer, Sustainability, Platinum 70 and Platinum 70 Plus.
The inaugural Breakthrough School Awards are sponsored by American Fidelity and GES, LLC.
