We are proud to announce that effective today, USDA, our school child nutrition program’s policy maker, has extended a waiver allowing us to feed ALL of our students, one free breakfast and one free lunch each school day until the funding for this program runs out or December 31, 2020. This includes virtual, blended and traditional learning students. If your child’s school sells extra food and a la carte items, they will still be available but the students must have money in hand or on their account to get these items just like always. If a student decides to bring their lunch and wants to get milk, they will still need to pay for it but we would really like to see our amazing young Sandites enjoy free meals with us if they would like.
Virtual or blended students are welcome to come get free meals with us also. Please use the meal order form provided on the school website to pre order. Note that with this waiver, your student no longer has to go to the school they would normally attend to receive a meal. They can pick up from any school site but again, please use the meal order form on the website to pre order at the school you want to pick up from. Please note also that on the order form is listed the meal availability times for that site and the location at the school as well as they will receive lunch for that day and breakfast for the next morning at the same time. Students do not have to be present to pick up these meals curbside.
Please continue to fill out the meal program applications if you have not already done so. These forms are very important for your family and for district funding. This waiver could change over night so if your family qualifies for the meal program, we want to make sure we have all the information in place so that you do not receive any meal charges at that time. USDA is still working on clarifications for us on this program so there are many questions that we do not have answers for but what we do know is that this is a great opportunity for our students and their families. As a district, because we know this could change quickly, we will not be refunding any money that is already on the students’ accounts. This money will remain on their account for any a la carte or extra food purchases during this time or for the day when this waiver is removed and we go back to normal feeding practices.
