Dear Sand Springs Public Schools Elementary Families,

We want to let you know about an important schedule change for the upcoming 2026–27 school year.

Earlier this year, Oklahoma Senate Bill 1481 was signed into law. This law requires public schools to provide students with 40 minutes of recess each school day, which is 20 minutes more than previously required. To meet this requirement while maintaining instructional time, our district’s elementary school schedules will be changed for the 2026-27 school year.

Beginning with the 2026–27 school year, all SSPS K-5 elementary schools will begin the school day at 7:30 a.m., which is ten minutes earlier than our previous start times. Morning drop-off will take place from 7:15 to 7:30 a.m. Breakfast will be served starting at 7:15 a.m. and will be available until 7:45 a.m.

We understand that changes to school schedules can affect family routines, childcare, and transportation. By sharing this information now, we hope to give families as much time as possible to prepare before the start of the school year.

To help answer common questions, we have created a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page. We encourage you to review it for more information about why this change is being made and what families can expect. View the FAQ here: https://www.sandites.org/page/elementary-schedule-faq

District leaders will also discuss this change soon on Sandite Chat, our district podcast. Please keep an eye out for that video on our YouTube channel here: www.youtube.com/@SanditeLearning/videos

Thank you for your continued partnership and support as we implement this state-required change. We look forward to welcoming your child for another great school year.
