Kim Newport receives Sandite Pacesetter Award

At last night’s February Sand Springs Board of Education meeting, the board presented the Sandite Pacesetter Award to Ms. Vickie Harbaugh and Ms. Kim Newport.

Ms. Harbaugh is a Special Education Teacher at Limestone Technology Academy, and she was nominated by Principal Terri Lee. In her nomination form, Ms. Lee described Ms. Harbaugh as a pillar of service who leads the Special Olympics Softball team, coordinates a weeklong camp for Limestone 5th graders, and organizes other extra efforts throughout the school.

Recently, Ms. Harbaugh successfully performed the Heimlich maneuver on a student who was choking on a piece of candy. I appreciate the way she remained calm and immediately took care of this child in need,” says Ms. Lee. “I can only hope that every school has a staff member that is as amazing as Mrs. Vickie Harbaugh!”

Ms. Newport is the Tulsa Boys Home Student Service Coordinator/Counselor and was nominated by TBH Teacher Jill Sandberg. In her nomination form, Ms. Sandberg states that Ms. Newport is “Someone who demonstrates to anyone in her circle how to handle each and every situation with grace, confidence and complete professionalism. She never backs down from a challenge and comes to school each day ready to take care of any and all ‘curves’ pitched her way.”

Thank you to Ms. Harbaugh and Ms. Newport for exemplifying Sandite excellence!
