Teri Lunsford and Angela Byerley Receive Sandite Pacesetter Award

At the June Sand Springs Board of Education meeting, the board presented the Sandite Pacesetter Award to three Sand Springs Public Schools employees.

Mr. Russell Ragland | Garfield STEAM Academy

Mr. Russell Ragland received the award for his outstanding work as the Principal for Garfield STEAM Academy. Mr. Ragland was nominated by GSA administrative professionals Mrs. Lavinda Forrester and Mrs. Debbie Bennett. In their nomination form, they state that Mr. Ragland is an extraordinary leader who “makes decisions every day for the betterment of staff, students, parents, and community.”

Mrs. Teri Lunsford and Mrs. Angela Byerley received the Sandite Pacesetter Award for organizing and planning Prom Promise, a program which allows students in special education the opportunity to attend prom with their friends and peers. The pair help the students get dresses and suits, hair and makeup, jewelry, and more before taking the students to dinner and prom. Mrs. Lunsford and Mrs. Byerley were nominated by Director of Special Education, Mrs. Carrie Schlehuber. In her nomination form, Mrs. Schlehuber writes that she is thankful for “their passion to provide an opportunity to our students that provides a lifelong memory for them.”
