At the February Sand Springs Board of Education meeting, the board presented the Sandite Spirit Award to students Sam Casto, Samuel Bennett, Vail Salb, Hunter Ashton, Logan Roberts (not pictured), and Madison Beard (not pictured). This group of students produced a short film, “Santa’s Debt Crisis,” which was submitted to the Oklahoma City University High School Student Film Festival.
Out of hundreds of international entries, their film was one of only 20 chosen to participate in the festival. These young filmmakers were also the only students from Oklahoma selected for the festival.
The film premiered on January 15 and received accolades, including a $5,000 OCU scholarship for director Samuel Bennett.
