At the February Sand Springs Board of Education meeting, the board presented sophomore Qayin Barsh with the Sandite Spirit Award. Qayin was recognized for his recent success at the Oklahoma Chess Association’s Independence K-12 Open. He won multiple matches by checkmate and received a medal from OCA in recognition of his performance.
