Oklahoma lawmakers recently passed legislation banning student use of cell phones and other personal electronic devices during the school day, beginning in the 2025-26 school year. In compliance with this new law, our Board of Education has adopted a local policy outlining how the mandate will be implemented.
You can view the policy here: https://5il.co/3l4dl
We recognize this will be a significant change and appreciate the flexibility and patience of everyone involved.
Here are some quick facts about how this will impact the school year:
The law requires that students do not use personal electronic devices from “bell to bell.” This includes the length of the school day.
The law applies to personal cell phones and other personal electronic devices, including – but not limited to – smart watches, smart glasses, laptops, tablets and smart headphones.
The law does not apply to school-issued or school-approved devices.
Students who violate board policy may face disciplinary consequences.
There are exceptions to the law, including the use of a device:
During an emergency, such as a natural disaster, medical emergency, or lockdown.
When a student needs the device for a health need, like checking blood sugar.
If the device is listed as necessary in a student’s IEP or 504 plan.
