Sand Springs Public Schools is proud to recognize individuals and partners who go above and beyond in service to our students, staff, and families. Each month, the Sandite Spirit and Sandite Pacesetter Awards spotlight those who exemplify commitment, compassion, and the true Sandite spirit. At the February Board of Education meeting, several deserving recipients were honored for the meaningful impact they make across our district.
CrossPoint Church
CrossPoint was recognized for its incredible generosity and ongoing partnership with Limestone Technology Academy. Through a remarkable act of kindness, CrossPoint surprised every Limestone student with brand-new shoes, socks, hats, and gloves, which were thoughtfully measured, wrapped, and labeled for each individual student. In addition, the church has supported families affected by the recent government shutdown by providing food pantry resources, ensuring students had access to meals during a challenging time. Their care and commitment have made a lasting difference for Limestone families.
Matt Haffner and Norman Rask with Reach Church
Matt Haffner and Norman Rask with Reach Church were also honored with the Sandite Spirit Award for their dedicated service to students at Northwoods Fine Arts Academy. Through Reach Church, Mr. Haffner leads an annual Christmas gift program that brings joy and dignity to students during the holiday season. Mr. Rask plays a vital role in the Backpack Program in coordination with the Eastern Oklahoma Food Bank, helping provide consistent food support to students each week. Together, their behind-the-scenes efforts ensure students and families receive dependable care and support year-round.
McKinney-Vento Assistant Jordan Welcher
McKinney-Vento Assistant Jordan Welcher was honored with a Sandite Pacesetter Award for her initiative and leadership at Limestone Technology Academy. Jordan identified a need during the government shutdown and took action by launching a food pantry to support students and families. She personally purchased shelving and worked with community partners to secure food donations, resulting in families receiving food items twice a week. Her compassion and proactive approach reflect what it means to be a Sandite.
CPHS Attendance Office
Charles Page High School Attendance Clerks Cathy Burdge, Sheri Painter, and Stephanie Talley received the Sandite Pacesetter Award for their dedication to student safety and daily operations. This team tracks attendance for nearly 1,600 students, manages hundreds of calls with professionalism and care, and serves as a vital connection point for families. Beyond their daily responsibilities, they consistently support school events and activities. They are true Sandites deserving of this recognition.
Congratulations to this month’s award recipients! These Sandites remind us that our district’s strength lies in the people and partners who show up for students every day. We are grateful for their generosity and commitment to our Sandites.
