Sand Springs Public Schools is proud to recognize the students, staff, and community partners who go above and beyond for our schools. Each month, the Sandite Spirit and Sandite Pacesetter Awards highlight individuals who demonstrate commitment, compassion, and the true Sandite spirit. At the March Board of Education meeting, several outstanding recipients were honored for the positive impact they make across our district.

Sandite BMX Team and Coach
The Sandite BMX Team received the Sandite Spirit Award for their performance in the 2025-2026 school year. In 2025, the team brought home two Gold Cup titles, seven State Championship titles, and two National Titles from Race of Champions (ROC). In her nomination form, BMX Parent Laura Vantrease stated, “The Sandite BMX team has shown exceptional dedication, grit, and heart throughout the entire season. These riders have pushed themselves at every practice and every race, giving their all from the first gate drop to the final finish line.”
BMX Coach Danny Scott received the Sandite Pacesetter Award. Under Scott’s leadership, the Sandite BMX Team has achieved milestones at the local, state, and national levels. Scott was also nominated for his award by Vantrease, who said Scott “dedicates countless hours to volunteering his time supporting and encouraging every rider, no matter their skill level. His patience, positivity, and ability to connect with kids make him truly special.”
Transportation Team Members Blake Canterbury and Emily Marshall
Two members of the SSPS Transportation team were recognized with the Sandite Pacesetter Award. Blake Canterbury was recognized for his vigilance and quick thinking during a recent safety incident while driving a bus route. When an unauthorized individual attempted to board the bus to the high school, Canterbury followed safety protocols and firmly denied entry. Authorities were notified and responded to the situation. Thanks to his situational awareness, the individual never gained access to the bus and students remained safe.
Emily Marshall (not pictured) received the Sandite Pacesetter Award for going above and beyond to help a student recover a prized collector’s hat that went missing on the bus. After reviewing camera footage and identifying the student who had taken it, Marshall coordinated with the student’s school to ensure the hat was returned. Her persistence and dedication helped reunite the student with an item that meant a great deal to him.
Congratulations to this month’s award recipients! Thank you all for enriching our district with your hard work, dedication, and pursuit of excellence.
