Clyde Boyd Sixth Grade Center students were quickly evacuated to safety by site teachers and staff this morning when a fire broke out in a bathroom. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. The Fire Department was contacted immediately and was able to extinguish the fire, then cleared the 7th and 8th grade facility for students to reenter. The 6th grade students were quickly relocated to the Clyde Boyd Middle School Gymnasium for parents to pick up. Students will not report to school in person tomorrow. Instead, tomorrow will be a distance learning day for sixth graders. Parents will need to pick up their students' belongings today after 1:00 pm. For questions, please call the sixth grade center at (918) 246-1535.

Sandite Families, As we enter into Distance Learning with our 6th through 12th students, it is important to continue to follow important health protocols even when school is remote. Remember the 3 W’s: Wash your hands, Wear your mask, and Watch your distance. Please continue to call or email and update your child’s school IF: Your student has been in close contact with someone who tested positive for Covid 19, OR Your student has tested positive for COVID 19 This information is important and allows us to determine when it is safe for your child to return to school. Teacher of the Year Teachers Announced for 2020-21
Good afternoon parents and guardians. North side schools were in a brief lockdown this afternoon for precautionary measures due to a police pursuit of an individual. The lockdown lasted approximately 30 minutes and we were cleared at 3:12. Safety procedures for buses were enacted and may have caused delays. Students and staff remained safe at all times. ~Superintendent Durkee

Congratulations to our very own Lindsey Sinkbeil, SSPS School Nurse for being selected by the Oklahoma State Department of Education as one of only 14 nurses in the state to participate in Project SWITCH (Strengthening Wellness and Improving Teachers and Children’s Health)--a CDC leadership program designed to assist schools in adjusting to the challenges of COVID-19! We are beyond blessed and grateful for all of our staff, but this year we are especially grateful to our team of nurses, who have done an amazing job, going above and beyond during this unprecedented time, to ensure the safety of our students and staff. We are so proud of Lindsey for her dedication and commitment to our students! The goal of Project SWITCH is to provide training and assistance to schools on the implementation of the CDC’s COVID-19 school-based guidance in the areas of physical activity, chronic disease management, social emotional climate, nutrition services and supporting high risk/vulnerable populations. As part of the project, Lindsey will attend monthly meetings and receive additional trainings. A region of the state will be assigned to each member of Project SWITCH, and nurses like Lindsey will conduct virtual Communities of Practice meetings to disseminate CDC information and provide professional support to individuals at other schools in the region.

Teachers & Librarians: Award-winning authors Kate Messner and Traci Sorell offer a thought-provoking author visit based on their books about the real history of the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag people, the myth of the "First Thanksgiving," and modern-day Native traditions of gratitude. Kate is the author of more than four dozen books for kids, including her new HISTORY SMASHERS illustrated nonfiction series, which unravels myths about history. In this author visit, she'll share a look behind the scenes at HISTORY SMASHERS: MAYFLOWER and challenge readers to some fun history quizzes, including a "What's Wrong With This Picture?" investigation of a famous "First Thanksgiving" painting. Traci Sorell is the author of the Sibert-Honor picture book WE ARE GRATEFUL: OTSALIHELIGA and several other works for young readers that celebrate Indigenous cultures. Traci will talk about Native perspectives on Thanksgiving, using a scene from her 2020 Global Read Aloud selection INDIAN NO MORE as a jumping off point. She'll share her Cherokee tribe's views on gratitude along with a partial read-aloud of WE ARE GRATEFUL: OTSALIHELIGA. Q&A with both authors will follow. https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_ksAQEzt1SXq0Lq6CF0Ww-Q
